Salutation: Take the time to find out who will read this and use their name-- it makes this letter much more personal and effective. You are trying to create a relationship between you and this person and the company.First Paragraph: What this letter is about. Get to the point right from the start.
Second Paragraph: Who you are. This is where you let them know how interesting and worthwhile you are. Give them a reason to want to talk to you.
Third Paragraph: Why you are the right person for the job, or why this is the perfect book for this publisher. Do your research prior to this, and have specific answers tailored to the situation.
Fourth Paragraph: What you will do for them. Let them know what skills you provide.
Fifth Paragraph: When follow-ups will be done and what you will doing to further this relationship. Let them know when and how you are available for contacting. Give them every chance to get in touch with you.
