The following lines were excerpts from the dialogue script for Quest for Glory V: DragonFire used to cast voice actors for the parts. They are responses to questions from the player and are designed to test the acting range of the performer.
There were about 3000 lines of spoken dialogue for the Game for over 41 speaking parts.
Elsa von
Spielburg
Lead Female Voice. Slight Germanic accent, similar to the female lead in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” Pleasant voice with a hard edge to it.
Elsa is a tough, ambitious woman able to take care of herself. She has a strong sense of honor, and is heroic.
The voice must be strong, but not obnoxious.
(Slightly menacing)
“I have not had the pleasure
to see the assassin, but I am looking forward to the meeting. I, too, carry antidote, and I am very
capable of making him pay for the deaths he has brought here.”
(Secretive)
“I must be very
cautious. I cannot be seen speaking
with you again. If Minos, suspects that
I am working with you rather than against you, I think both of us will be the
target of the assassin.”
(Confident)
“Make no mistake, I will do
everything I can to become King here.
However, I will do this the right way, the proper way. I will earn the Kingdom fairly, or I will
not accept the title.”
“You and I may be allies,
but we are also competitors. The best
of us will rule Silmaria, and I believe that will be me.”
Assassin –
Bruno
One of the main villains. Mostly surly and malicious, and very sneaky. Few lines. Deep voice, not too cartoony. Sort of a Robert Conrad voice.
(Menacingly)
“Ya want to
start something with me? Good. I’ve been looking forward to this.”
(Triumphant)
“Gotcha! I just gave you a one-way trip to Hades for
good, this time. Tell ‘m Bruno sent
you!”
(Confident)
“Surprised you, didn’t I?
Let’s just say I learned some new tricks. Now you’re going to die, and I get the pleasure of seeing you
suffer. This one’s for free.”
(Gloating)
“Man, I shoulda killed you
and Elsa both in Spielburg the first time.
You screwed me there. This time,
you’re screwed. Fair’s fair.”
Wolfie --
Artist and Sculptor
Wolfie is a dog-headed character with an east Indian accent. Wolfie is a comedic character not unlike Fisher Stevens character in “Short Circuit” He is friendly and eager to please. He also tells jokes as a straight man. His voice will be used on the Demo CD.
“Greetings, greetings, greetings.
It is always a pleasure to meet someone new. Welcome to Silmaria. I am
Wolfie, an artist and artisan of Grecian urns and amphorae.”
“Silmaria is a very fine
city, yes indeed. This is the best
place to buy many things in this Town Square.
You can meet many people here, as well.
Some of them will be so kind as to not pick your pocket as they walk
by.”
Ferrari
Ferrari is a combination of the characters played by Sidney Greenstreet in “Casablanca” and “The Maltese Falcon.” He can be very pleasant and polite, but he is a ruthless villain when he has to be. He as a very amused attitude of superiority. A voice like Greenstreet would be preferred.
(Pleasant)
“Ah, it is good to see you
again. I, Senor Ferrari, welcomes you
to the arena of Silmaria. Here we are
holding gladiatorial combats each evening for the next few weeks.”
“You may come each evening
to witness these displays of man’s most brutal nature. It costs but five drachmas to observe the
spectacle of combat.”
“It is a fine place to observe
the strengths and frailties of your opponents.
I am presuming, of course, that you wish to participate in these
barbaric and brutal acts of violence.”
(Slightly menacing)
“I believe that you and I have some business that needs to be
handled first. There is a little matter
of your membership in the guild of thieves.
I am certain you would not like this to be public knowledge. It could sincerely damage your chances at
becoming king here, would you not agree?”
Ann
Agrama (Gnome)
Gnome Ann is a lot like a cross between Babs Bunny from “Tiny Toons” and Dot from “Animaniacs,” although she is much more mature than either of them. She runs the inn in town. She’s definitely a humorous character.
(First Intro to the Gnome)
“Heellllo, sailor. My,
fancy you sailing into my port! You can
shiver my timbers any day. I’m Ann,
Gnome Ann, and this is my Land Inn. Set
anchor, dreamboat, and let me batten your hatches.”
(Describing the dinner at the inn)
“The cooks have fixed something really special – pancakes topped
with fruit.”
“They started to make salmon
soufflé, but they didn’t have any salmon.
They did get a good deal from Andre on some anchovies, though. Sal wanted to make a blueberry pie, but
Marrak was selling bananas and grapes, so she made those into a pie instead.”
“Just as Rover was taking
the soufflé out of the oven, Tony called Tessie a frumpy old toadstool, so she
threw the pie at him. She got him square
on the face, and fruit pie pan fell on the soufflé, squashing it flat.”
“So now we have anchovy
pancakes and baked fruit. Hope you like
it.”
